UDOIT - How to View and Interpret Your UDOIT Course Accessibility Score
What is UDOIT?
UDOIT is a tool available in UW-Superior Canvas courses that identifies digital accessibility issues in your course content. It also explains how to resolve these errors to improve your course. UDOIT can even solve some common issues for you.
For more information about how UDOIT differs from the built-in Canvas accessibility checker, how to use UDOIT to identify and fix issues in your course, and how to review course files, visit our How to Use the UDOIT Digital Accessibility Tool guide.
What is the UDOIT Course Accessibility Score?
UDOIT scans all content in your course, looks for accessibility issues, and then sorts those issues into types. UDOIT then weights those error types by impact and provides a percentage score for each category (based on the severity of issues). Your Course Accessibility Score combines those calculations into an overall total.
The Course Accessibility Score is located on the UDOIT “Home” tab, near the top-left of the screen.
How is the Course Score Calculated?
UDOIT scans all content in the course, but it doesn’t score all content in the course. UDOIT scores content that is placed in a module or linked to by other content, regardless of whether it’s published or not.
What if I don’t want some content to impact my Course Score?
If you don’t want an item to impact your course score:
- Fully remove the item from the course, or…
- Remove it from all modules and ensure no content links to it, or…
- Fix all accessibility issues UDOIT detects impact that item.
UDOIT scores unpublished content, but does not score “unused” content (content not found in Modules or linked to by other content).
How do I confirm the number of errors in my course?
The UDOIT “Home” page includes two summary sections that list the total number of errors in your course, regardless of whether they impact the total score.
- The Content Summary section lists errors identified in your course’s HTML content—in other words, quizzes, discussions, assignments, and pages.
- The Course Files Summary section lists errors identified in your course Files (shown in the Course Navigation menu). These are usually PDF documents, Microsoft Word documents, and audio or video media files.
After checking your overall score, and reviewing these summaries, look at the number of digital accessibility errors in your course and investigate how to resolve both errors and suggestions. You can do so using both the “UFIXIT” and “Review Course Files” tabs.
Both of these pages include flexible filters to manage which issues are listed. Keep in mind that these filters impact what’s listed on the page, but do not impact whether or not an item is factored into your Course Accessibility Score. (Items filtered out on either page may still be impacting your score.)
