Canvas Portfolios

What is Canvas Portfolio?

Canvas Portfolio is a tool where you can create and manage your portfolios in Canvas. Portfolios help you organize and showcase your work.

The Canvas Portfolio tool is available only in Canvas. You can access it from Account menu (far left, yellow background).

Click Account and then click Portfolio to access this tool.

Canvas Portfolio supports two types of portfolio: “Showcase” portfolios and “Evaluation” portfolios.

  • Showcase Portfolios: Created independently by learners to document their work and learning. (These are similar to portfolios in the retiring ePortfolio tool.)
  • Evaluation Portfolios: Evaluation portfolios are created by instructors and assigned to courses. Learners enrolled in these courses will be automatically added to the portfolio. They can be:
    • Templated to guide learners with predefined structure, instructions, and expectations.
    • Duplicated and reused each semester across courses or cohorts, allowing institutions to standardize learning assessment while still enabling personalization.
